Biography
Emerging from Denmark’s expansive Boom Clap Bachelors collective, the avant-R&B duo Quadron blends experimental soul with occasional folk-soul touches. Multi-instrumentalist and producer Robin Braun—also known as Robin Hannibal and half of Owusu & Hannibal—teams with vocalist Coco O. to form the project. Their first joint recordings appeared in 2009, beginning with the skewed mid-’60s soul throwback “Slippin,” which found placement in the film Se Min Kjole. Later that year the sparse, abstract track “Day” caught the ear of BBC DJ Gilles Peterson, who added it to the year-end All Winners edition of his Worldwide show. The Los Angeles label Plug Research then licensed the self-titled album for broader release, issuing it in March 2010. Braun and Coco O. soon received collaboration requests from Leon Ware, the Internet, and Tyler, The Creator. Their interpretation of Michael Jackson’s “Baby Be Mine” appeared on the soundtrack for the 2012 film Think Like a Man. In 2013 Braun recorded an album with Mike Milosh under the name Rhye, while Coco O. contributed to the soundtrack for Baz Luhrmann’s The Great Gatsby. That June the pair issued their second album, Avalanche, through Sylvia Rhone’s Vested in Culture imprint, an Epic affiliate.
