Lola Marsh formed in Israel as an indie pop duo featuring vocalist Yael Shoshana Cohen and producer-multi-instrumentalist Gil Landau. Their atmospheric style blends grounded textures with sweeping, film-like arrangements, drawing from sources that range from Sufjan Stevens and Tame Impala to Ennio Morricone and Edith Piaf. The pair first reached streaming playlists with the 2015 single “Sirens,” then issued their debut full-length, Remember Roses, two years later. A pronounced shift toward dancefloor-oriented material surfaced on their third album, Shot Shot Cherry, which appeared in 2022.

Cohen spent portions of her childhood in Singapore and Kenya, absorbing her parents’ wide-ranging cassette library that featured sounds from Southeast Asia. Landau, who had been composing on acoustic guitar in search of a vocalist, encountered Cohen shortly after she completed studies at the Rimon School of Jazz and Contemporary Music; the meeting occurred at a Tel Aviv party in 2011. Once they performed together that evening, Landau found himself captivated by Cohen’s singular yet inviting, speech-like delivery, while she responded immediately to melodies that fit her timbre. The two spent the next couple of years refining material and performing before recruiting additional players for recording sessions.

Issued in March 2015, “Sirens” quickly appeared on viral streaming rankings in the United States. Follow-up “You’re Mine” mirrored that success, climbing to Hype Machine’s Top Three. Both tracks anchored the January 2016 EP You’re Mine, released jointly by Anova Music and Barclay. The same labels presented the band’s first album, Remember Roses, in mid-2017; it registered on Swiss charts and was promoted through an international itinerary that included a support slot for the Pixies in Israel. Early 2018 brought further dates across Israel, Europe, and North America, encompassing shows alongside Milky Chance plus appearances at SXSW and Treefort Music Fest. The duo returned with their sophomore album, Someday Tomorrow Maybe, on Anova and Barclay in January 2020, reaching the Top 75 in Austria.

Although Lola Marsh had previously balanced pop, indie-folk, and rhythm-driven pieces, their third album, Shot Shot Cherry, leaned more decisively into danceable indie electronica. The set marked their first release on Polydor/Universal upon its October 2022 arrival.
