Biography
A composer and university instructor, Luiz Tatit has earned recognition for his contributions to Brazilian music. He established Grupo Rumo in 1974. The ensemble revisited compositions by Noel Rosa, Lamartine Babo, and Sinhô, presented multiple concerts, and issued four albums guided by a semiotics-based innovation.
Tatit earned his B.A. in Linguistics during 1978 and followed with a B.A. in Music Composition the subsequent year. He finished a master’s degree in 1982 and received his Ph.D. in 1986, the same year he published the book A Canção: Eficácia e Encanto. Ná Ozzetti included Tatit’s “Ah!” on her debut solo LP in 1988. Two years afterward, Tatiane placed “Dúvidas” on Verão de 2001. The tracks “Trio De Efeitos” and “Disco,” both co-written with José Miguel Wisnik, appeared on the 1992 CD Via Paulista. The next year Tatit performed “Mestres Cantores” alongside Wisnik on the latter’s first solo album. Tatit obtained his post-doctoral degree in 1994. That same year Ná Ozzetti recorded “Atração Fatal,” “Tempo Escondido,” and “Nosso Dia D,” each credited to Ná/Tatit, for her album Ná. Canções de Ninar featured “Bondinho” (with Sandra Peres), “Sono Preguiça” (with Akira Ueno), and “Dorme Em Paz” (with Paulo Tatit). The Audio News Collection series placed “Esboço” and “Mestres Cantores” on Vanguarda Da Música Popular Brasileira, Vol. 5.
Daúde revived “Ah!” for her own debut album in 1995. The following year Tatiane returned to “Felicidade” on Inseto Raro. Canções De Brincar contained “Já Sabe,” “Ana Maria” (with Sandra Peres), “É A Vez Do Tamanduá” (with Sandra Peres/Paulo Tatit), and “Aniversário” (with Paulo Tatit). Tatit issued his first solo CD, Felicidade, comprising twelve originals, in 1997 and simultaneously released the book Musicando A Semiótica: Ensaios. “Esboço” received orchestral backing from the Orquestra Jazz Sinfônica on Mundo São Paulo; Márcia Salomon recorded “Deu Pane Em São Paulo” for De Lálá Pra Cá; and “Marchinha Da Sereia” (with Hélio Ziskind) appeared on Meu Pé, Meu Querido Pé. Ney Matogrosso covered “Depois Melhora” on Olhos De Farol in 1998 and added three further Tatit songs to Canções Curiosas. Ná Ozzetti featured “Crápula,” “Nosso Amor,” and “Estopim” (with Dante Ozzetti), plus “Toque de Recolher,” “Eu Voltarei,” and “Desfile” (with Ná Ozzetti), along with “Capitu” on the 1999 album Estopim. Ana Savagni performed “Quer Uma Coisa?” The CD Noite feliz incorporated two additional Tatit compositions.
In 2000 the Prêmio Multicultural Estadão nominated Tatit, and he received the Prêmio Visa 2000 for “Dentro E Fora,” “Os Passionais,” and “Terra à Vista,” all written with Dante Ozzetti. His song “Show” (with Fábio Tagliaferri) reached the finals of TV Globo’s Festival de Música Popular, where Ná Ozzetti earned the best interpreter award for her performance. That year Tatit also delivered his second solo album, O Meio.
