Biography
Lulu Gainsbourg, born Lucien Gainsbourg in 1986 to the legendary troubadour Serge Gainsbourg and French model/actress Bambou, initially avoided public attention before choosing music and acting paths similar to those taken by his half-sister Charlotte. His mother bestowed the nickname Lulu in a 1987 song, and two years later he performed "Hey Man, Amen" onstage during Serge's final live tour at Le Zenith. After Serge's death in 1991, encouragement prompted formal musical training that included piano study at the Conservatoire de Paris and a teenage duet with Bambou titled "Ne Dis Rien". In 2002 he made his screen debut in Francois Armanet's La Bande du Drugstore, then relocated first to London and afterward to Boston, where he attended Berklee College of Music; while there he wrote "Quand Je Suis Seul" for Marc Lavoine's Vol. 10 and contributed to Charlotte's third album, IRM. His debut solo release arrived in 2011 as From Gainsbourg to Lulu, a set of favored Serge songs recorded with Rufus Wainwright, Scarlett Johansson, and Vanessa Paradis & Johnny Depp.
