One of Madam X’s more distinctive songs, ‘Come One, Come All’, contained the line ‘We’re bad, we’re good, that’s all we ever wanted’. Most listeners, however, placed the group firmly in the first of those two camps. Sisters Maxine and Roxy Petrucci (b. 17 March 1962, Rochester, Michigan, USA), handling guitar and drums respectively, founded the band in New York in 1983 together with vocalist Bret Kaiser and bass player Christopher ‘Godzilla’ Doliber. Relocating to Los Angeles allowed their particular strain of glam metal to find a warmer reception. An anthemic single titled ‘High In High School’, issued in February 1985 and accompanied by an appropriately lavish video, was produced by Rick Derringer, who performed the same role on the accompanying album; both releases proved unremarkable, and the band’s concerts likewise failed to deliver the anticipated energy.

Roxy Petrucci left in 1986 to join Vixen, and Kaiser soon withdrew from music with his ambitions checked. Mark McConnell assumed drumming duties, while Sebastian Bach (b. Sebastian Philip Bierk, 3 April 1968, Freeport, Bahamas) took over vocals. Before the year ended the group had collapsed; Doliber launched a ferocious outfit also named Godzilla, yet it achieved nothing notable. Maxine stayed overshadowed by her sibling, whereas Bach rose to prominence with the pop-metal act Skid Row.
