Biography
The Finnish rock outfit Maj Karma, previously known as Maj Karman Kauniit Kuvat, achieved widespread commercial breakthrough in the early 2000s. Originating from Harjavalta where they came together in 1992, the group features Herra Ylppö handling vocals, Häiriö Piirinen on guitar, Kimmo Kurittu playing bass, and Janne Savolainen behind the drums, with Kurittu being the sole non-founding member. Prior to their studio album introduction via 1996's Kaukana Puhelimista, they put out demo tapes under the name "Kansanmusiikki Nyt." Later releases encompassed Kaakao in 1998, Aäri in 2000, Rautaneito in 2001, and Metallisydän in 2003. Their peak period arrived during 2004, marked by the third-ranked single success "Kyynel" alongside the Top Ten placement of Sodankylä. Even bigger came Ukkonen two years afterward, which led the Finnish album rankings and remained on the listing for a total of 19 weeks while featuring the second-position hit "Rukous." Their eighth effort, Salama from 2009, also performed strongly by entering the upper five positions.
