Biography
Finnish industrial metal outfit Turmion Kätilöt originated in Kuopio in 2003, when MC Raaka Pee on vocals and DJ Vastapallo on guitar assembled the lineup that also features Spellgoth sharing vocal duties, RunQ handling keyboards and programming, DQ on drums and percussion, and Master Bates on bass. From the outset the group enjoyed consistent Top Ten placement on domestic charts. Their first single, the Top Five smash “Teurastaja,” appeared that same year and was swiftly followed by another hit, “Verta ja Lihaa.” Both tracks found a home on the band’s Spinefarm Records debut album, Hoitovirhe, issued in 2004. The five-song EP Niuva 20 arrived the next year, setting the stage for Pirun Nyrkki, which reached the Top Ten in 2006; its title track climbed to number two on the Finnish singles chart. After parting ways with Spinefarm, Turmion Kätilöt signed with Raha Records and delivered their third album, U.S.C.H!, another Top Ten success, in 2009. In advance of that release, the lead single “Minä Määrään” had been offered as a free digital download via the band’s website in 2008.
