Biography
Pain represents the enduring and distinctive artistic endeavor of the accomplished Swedish heavy metal producer Peter Tägtgren, who serves as lead vocalist for Hypocrisy and blends elements of metal, techno, and industrial textures. This project secured eight Top 40 placements on the Swedish charts thanks to Tägtgren's abilities as composer, producer, and multi-instrumentalist. He began Pain in 1996 as a personal solo outlet inspired by Fear Factory, issuing the self-titled debut the next year. Tägtgren arranged his schedule to keep the band a studio-only concern, yet brought in select musicians from Scandinavia's metal scene for occasional live performances. Rebirth followed in 1999 and gave way to Nothing Remains the Same in 2002. Dancing with the Dead reached number three on the Swedish charts upon its 2005 release. Psalms of Extinction, issued in 2007, became the first album to employ outside studio players such as Children of Bodom's Alexi Laiho, while Cynic Paradise the following year featured Anette Olzon on vocals. You Only Live Twice returned to the project's earlier sonic approach in 2011, preceding a five-year hiatus that concluded with Coming Home in 2016, an album that charted in five additional European countries. Tägtgren subsequently joined Lindemann, the solo project of Rammstein vocalist Till Lindemann, and reunited Hypocrisy for the 2021 album Worship. Pain resurfaced after nearly eight years with the full-length I Am in 2024, which entered the charts in four countries.
