Biography
Hailing from Italy, Måneskin delivers a flashy rock sound built on catchy, playfully sarcastic anthems that draw from a sharp fusion of 1970s dance-punk, glam rock, and early-2000s indie sleaze. The Rome-based quartet—Damiano David on vocals, Victoria De Angelis on bass, Thomas Raggi on guitar, and Ethan Torchio on drums—first came together in high school and officially launched Måneskin in 2016. After busking on the streets, they gained quick traction with a 2017 appearance on the Italian X Factor, where a cover of the Killers’ “Somebody Told Me” secured them second place and set the stage for their debut album, Il ballo della vita. Released in 2018, the record topped the Italian albums chart and yielded additional hits such as “Morirò da re,” “Torna a casa,” and “L’altra dimensione.”
A major leap arrived in 2021 when, shortly after issuing their second album Teatro d’Ira, Vol. 1, the band entered the Eurovision Song Contest and claimed victory with “Zitti e buoni.” That track helped drive Teatro d’Ira, Vol. 1 to number one in Italy, Finland, Lithuania, and Sweden while also expanding the group’s reach, landing them in the U.K. Top 50 and at number seven on Billboard’s World Albums chart. “Mammamia” served as the first single from their third album, followed by “Supermodel” in 2022. Rush! arrived in January 2023, featuring production from longtime collaborator Fabrizio Ferraguzzo alongside Captain Cuts, Max Martin, and additional contributors. The same year brought a Grammy nomination for Best New Artist, and the dance-rock single “HONEY (ARE U COMING?)” appeared in September 2023.
