Mansur Brown works as a guitarist along with his roles as multi-instrumentalist, producer, and composer from the Brixton area in South London. His approach merges elements of funk with ambient textures, neo-electro beats, hip-hop rhythms, jazz fusion, and rock influences into a cohesive whole. He entered the recording world through the future fusion group Triforce, which consisted of fellow students from Middlesex University. The ensemble put out their Triforce 5ive EP during 2016. Additionally, Brown played guitar for the jazz-funk ensemble Yusef Kamaal on their initial release titled Black Focus. Once Triforce disbanded in 2018—an event that came after their composition "Walls" featured on the Brownsville compilation We Out Here, a survey of London's jazz developments in the 21st century—Brown issued his first full-length effort, Shiroi, the same year. Contributors to the sessions encompassed bassist Thundercat and keyboardist Robert Glasper. As the inaugural release on the Black Focus imprint, the project received production from Henry Wu, also recognized as Kamaal Williams. He continued his output with the Tetsuo EP during 2020. Throughout 2021, Brown put forth a trio of successive singles spanning May to July under the titles "Serious/Kerene," "My Prayer," and "Flight," ahead of unveiling his sophomore album Heiwa that September. The six-track NAQI came out in September 2022, succeeded by the four-song NAQI, Vol. 2 that November.
