Biography
Marc Sway, a Swiss singer and songwriter whose Brazilian roots inform a broad musical approach blending pop and rock with soul and R&B, entered the world as Stefan Bachofen on June 25, 1979, in Männedorf, Switzerland. His Swiss father and Brazilian mother both possessed musical leanings. The artist launched his recording career in 2003 via the single “Natural High,” the opening track from his debut solo album Marc’s Way, issued by Ariola, a BMG imprint. That project also yielded the follow-up “Ready for the Ride,” yet the album reached only number 36 and the single number 67 on the Swiss charts, after which Sway stepped away from the industry for several years. He returned in 2006 with the Top 30 single “We Are on Fire!,” a track he wrote that featured Daniel Kandlbauer, Kisha, and Tanja Dankner and served as the official anthem for the Swiss Olympic Team at the Winter Olympics in Turin, Italy. The following year brought another collaboration, “Hemmingslos Liebe,” a Top Ten hit alongside Fabienne Louves. Building on that success, Sway issued his second solo album, One Way, in 2008 on Columbia Records; the set climbed into the Swiss Top Ten and delivered the single “Severina,” which peaked at number 11.
