Biography
Maria Alice stands out among the leading figures in Cape Verdean music through the piercing clarity of her vocal delivery. She first attracted notice as the "next Cesaria Evora" after launching her club performances throughout Cape Verde at age 14, with her most notable achievements arriving after she settled in Lisbon in the early '80s. Her first album, D'Zemcontre, appeared in 1996 and included support from Cape Verde's foremost musicians, among them Armando Tito, Manuel Pris, and Nandinho.
