Biography
Cellist and contemporary vocalist María Villalón first reached global audiences through her appearance on the Spanish television contest Factor X. Born on April 1, 1989, she started singing at three and, by her early teens, had added cello to her musical activities while building the groundwork for a professional recording path. Before gaining wider notice, she issued two albums—Entre Sueños in 2000 and Rompe in 2002—that sharpened her stagecraft and artistic voice yet failed to register commercially. Although she had once auditioned for Operación Triunfo, it was on the debut season of Factor X that she regularly performed while playing cello, an uncommon sight among reality-show contestants who typically showcased only their voices. After claiming victory, she signed with Sony BMG. The subsequent “best-of” collection Factor X moved more than 40,000 copies and reached number seven on the Spanish pop albums chart, prompting preparation for her major-label debut. Te Espero Aqui arrived in November 2007, showcasing her distinctive blend of classical, pop, and traditional Spanish elements, and entered the national Top 40.
