Emerging from Málaga as a Spanish vocalist and composer known for her fresh take on pop and rock, Vanesa Martín launched her independent career in 2006 via the album Agua, highlighted by the early hit “Aún No Te Has Ido.” She teamed up with producer Carlos Jean for the project, which came out under EMI and included tracks like the initial single “El Tren de la Cordura,” though “Aún No Te Has Ido” gained greater traction afterward. A deluxe version followed in 2007, featuring the additional single “Durmiendo Sola” performed alongside David DeMaría. Despite earning praise from critics, commercial sales remained modest for Agua, prompting Martín to move to Warner Music for her next release, Trampas, which came out in 2009 and reached position 25 on the Spanish albums chart, led by the single “Caprichoso.” That same year she earned the Dial Prize from the Cadena Dial Awards recognizing her as one of the top domestic talents.

Her third studio album, Cuestion de Piel, arrived in 2012 and included joint efforts with singer/songwriters Malú and Pablo Alborán plus flamenco guitarist José Antonio Rodríguez. It quickly achieved strong results by entering the Top Ten of the Spanish Top 100 Albums Chart. To cap off her active 2012, Martín issued her debut live acoustic project, Ven, Siéntate y Me lo Cuentas..., consisting of 14 tracks captured during a September session at the El Olivar Foundation in Madrid. In 2013 the Andalusian Institute for Youth presented her with the Youth Art Award. Crónica de un Baile, her fourth studio album, was released in 2014 and performed well on charts, eventually earning platinum certification in Spain. Returning with new output in 2016, she first published the poetry collection Mujer Océano in March, gathering verses composed during various recording periods. Her fifth studio album, Munay, followed later that year and topped the Spanish albums chart.
