Edurne Garcia Almargo entered the world in Madrid on December 22, 1985. The name Edurne, which translates to “snow” in Euskera, the language of northern Spain’s Basque communities, reflected an early pull toward music that first surfaced when she sang with friends in karaoke venues. She soon aligned with other young vocalists to establish the band Los Trastos, which produced three recordings and appeared on TVE’s Musica Si. Additional screen credits followed on Ana y Los Siete and Hospital Central. Momentum arrived during the fourth season of Operacion Triunfo; although she exited as the program’s sixth finalist, producers extended an invitation to cut her debut album. Powered by the hit single “Despierta,” the self-titled release Edurne moved 40,000 units and reached number three on the national charts. That visibility positioned her as the featured artist for Herbal Essence’s nationwide campaign during summer 2006, which spotlighted her single “Amores Dormidos.” The telenovela Yo Soy Bea tapped her to perform “Te Falta Veneno” as its theme. At year’s end she earned a nomination for Mejor Artista Revelacion from 40 Principales, the radio executives who shape Spanish-language airplay across multiple countries. In summer 2007 her second album, Ilusión, arrived via the radio single “Ven por Mi” and opened at number 13 on the national charts.
