Biography
Maria Laura entered the world on June 25, 1975, in Mar de Plata, Argentina. Professional musicians both, her parents immersed her in performance and melody from infancy, with Earth, Wind & Fire and kindred American soul and funk acts shaping her earliest tastes. Work in Mallorca’s bustling tourist hotels and clubs soon drew the family across the Atlantic from Argentina. When illness sidelined her mother one evening, Laura stepped in to sing, an experience that quickly expanded into regular stage appearances throughout her school years. After graduation she secured a post at the Casino de Mallorca. In 2001 she auditioned for the inaugural season of the Spanish television contest Operacion Triunfo, and the exposure translated into her first album, Chenoa, issued in April 2002. While many contestants from similar programs fade quickly, Chenoa sustained momentum through a string of singles that cleared the path for the follow-up collections Mis Canciones Favoritas and Soy Mujer. Extensive touring across Europe and Latin America broadened her following, and the 2006 album Nada es Igual attained double-platinum status inside twelve months. Absurda Cenicienta, her fourth studio effort, arrived in 2007, with Desafiando la Gravedad following in 2009.
