Born in Madrid in 1989 to parents of Spanish and French descent, Belinda Peregrin Schull began her life as a child actress before transitioning into music, moving permanently to Mexico City with her family in 1993. From an early age she demonstrated a clear aptitude for performance and vocals, appearing in three Televisa series, the final installment of which, Complices al Rescate, introduced her singing on its accompanying soundtrack. The program's widespread popularity quickly led to an international tour and substantial record sales.

Shortly before her fourteenth birthday she issued her first solo album, Belinda, which surpassed 800,000 copies sold around the world. Its supporting tour, Fiesta en la Azotea, drew an impressive 1.5 million attendees and yielded a live concert DVD that achieved comparable commercial success. Her initial release for EMI's Norte imprint, Utopia, represented her first project recorded outside Mexico and enlisted several of Los Angeles's most sought-after pop songwriters and producers. She continued to balance screen work, including a role in Disney's Cheetah Girls 2.
