Paty Cantú, born Patricia Giovanna Cantú Velasco on November 25, 1983 in Guadalajara, Mexico, first gained widespread attention in 2004 as the lead vocalist of the Latin pop duo Lu before launching a successful solo path several years afterward. She established the group alongside songwriter Mario Sandoval, and their self-titled debut album appeared that same year on Warner Records. Hitmaker Aureo Baqueiro handled production, and the record achieved enormous popularity by yielding the chart-topping single “Por Besarte,” additional follow-up tracks, and two deluxe-edition reissues.

Lu’s sophomore effort, Álbum (2006), also performed well commercially and generated the singles “La Vida Después de Ti,” “Si Tú Me Quisieras,” and “Voy a Llorar,” although it did not match the impact of the duo’s first release. Following only those two albums, Lu disbanded in 2007, after which Cantú immediately pursued solo work. Her initial solo single, the Top Ten hit “Déjame Ir,” arrived in 2008; around the same period she scored a Top Five placement with “Dos Palabras,” a collaboration with the Mexican heavy metal band Motel. Both tracks received heavy rotation on the Latin music channels MTV and Telehit.

In 2009 she issued her first solo album, Me Quedo Sola, on EMI; it climbed to number three on the Mexican charts and featured the follow-up single “No Fue Suficiente.” The equally successful Afortunadamente No Eres Tú appeared a year later, with Corazón Bipolar arriving in 2012. Cantú also contributed to the 2014 FIFA World Cup anthem “The World Is Ours.” Later that year she released the concert album Drama Queen en Vivo, recorded during her 2013 performance at the National Auditorium in Mexico City. She returned with the 2017 single “Natural,” which featured Juhn.
