Biography
Becky G demonstrates striking versatility by shifting without effort from dense hardcore rap verses into memorable pop hooks rendered in Spanish or English. During her teenage years she collaborated with figures including Cody Simpson and Kesha, then established herself independently through the 2014 single “Shower.” While issuing a regular sequence of tracks she also pursued acting, taking a role in the 2017 Power Rangers film and scoring a major Latin success via her Bad Bunny duet “Mayores.” The song later appeared on her first album, Mala Santa, released in 2019, which reached the Top Five on the Latin charts. Additional singles carried her into the following decade, among them 2020’s “No Drama” with Ozuna and 2022’s “Mamiii” with Karol G, before her sophomore set Esquemas returned her to the Top Five of the Latin Albums chart. Beginning with 2023’s Esquinas she issued two consecutive projects spotlighting the Regional Mexican music of her youth, followed a year later by Encuentros.
Rebbeca Marie Gomez, born and raised in Inglewood, California, entered the music industry at age fourteen by posting covers of tracks such as Kanye West and Jay-Z’s “Otis” and Frank Ocean’s “Novacane” on video-sharing sites. Performing as Becky G she cultivated an online audience that attracted producer Dr. Luke, who signed her to his Sony-owned Kemosabe label. Early work centered on featured appearances, among them Cody Simpson’s 2012 single “Wish U Were Here” and the remix of Kesha’s “Die Young.” Her own debut release, “Becky from the Block,” arrived in 2013 together with the EP Play It Again. The next year brought the breakout single “Shower,” which entered the U.S. Top 20 and eventually earned multi-platinum certification. She continued later that year with the Pitbull-assisted “Can't Get Enough” and toured as support for both Demi Lovato and Katy Perry.
In 2017 Becky G gained added visibility by portraying Trini, the yellow Power Ranger, in the feature film Power Rangers. That July she achieved a substantial Latin-chart hit with “Mayores,” her collaboration with Puerto Rican rapper Bad Bunny. She returned to English-language material in July 2018 with “Zooted,” featuring French Montana and Farruko, and also appeared on Kane Brown’s “Lost in the Middle of Nowhere.” October 2019 saw the release of her debut full-length Mala Santa. Besides the earlier “Mayores,” the album yielded key tracks such as “Sin Pijama” with Natti Natasha, “Cuando Te Besé” with Paulo Londra, and “Dollar” featuring Myke Towers, ultimately peaking at number three on the Billboard Top Latin Albums chart. The same year she joined Anitta for “Banana” and Maluma for “La Respuesta.” Further standalone releases followed in 2020, including “Perdiendo la Cabeza” with Carlos Rivera and Pedro Capó, “Muchacha” with Gente de Zona, and “No Drama” with Ozuna.
Becky G and Natti Natasha reunited in 2021 on “Ram Pam Pam,” which preceded “Fulanito” featuring El Alfa. The subsequent year brought her team-up with Karol G on the single “Mamiii.” These efforts led to her second studio album, the 2022 disco- and reggaeton-infused Esquemas, which reached the Top 20 of the Hot 100 and topped the Latin Pop Albums chart. March 2023 delivered the non-album single “Arranca” with Omega. That September she issued her third full-length Esquinas, produced by Edgar Barrera. Anchored by “Chanel” with Peso Pluma and “La Nena” with Gabito Ballesteros, the project highlighted traditional horn- and guitar-driven Regional Mexican styles and placed at number 109 on the Billboard 200 while entering the Top Ten on the Latin charts. Alongside the solo track “Boomerang,” she appeared with El Alfa and the Black Eyed Peas on “Tonight” from the Bad Boys: Ride or Die soundtrack in the first half of 2024. The success of “Mercedes” with Oscar Maydon preceded the October arrival of Encuentros, another regional Mexican album and her fourth studio release.
