New York native Prince Royce cultivated a warm, honeyed vocal approach rooted in the Caribbean-born bachata tradition, lending the style an unmistakably urban edge. The singer first entered the Latin pop mainstream during 2010 via his self-titled debut set, which spawned two major singles: a Spanish-language bachata rendition of Ben E. King's "Stand by Me" and the original track "Corazón Sin Cara." Over the ensuing seasons he became a steady presence on both the Top Latin Albums and Billboard 200 tallies, as 2013's Soy el Mismo logged an impressive 129 weeks while 2017's Five accumulated another 57. Following the 2017 Top Ten Latin success "Sensualidad," which found Bad Bunny and J Balvin among its featured voices, Royce issued seven advance singles ahead of the 2020 double album Alter Ego; the project led both the Latin and Tropical streaming charts, propelled by cuts such as "Morir Solo" and "Carita de Inocente." Subsequent chart entries included the 2021 release "Lao' a Lao," the 2022 collaboration "Te Espero" alongside María Becerra, and 2023's "Me EnRD."

Working with producer Andrés Hidalgo under the 2Strong Entertainment banner, Royce unveiled his first full-length, Prince Royce, in 2010 on Top Stop Music—the imprint founded by New York salsa icon Sergio George. Bachata listeners embraced the project, likening the twenty-year-old performer to Aventura, Xtreme, Bachata Heightz and kindred New York urban acts. A bilingual take on Ben E. King's classic "Stand by Me" served as the lead single and swiftly climbed into the Top Ten of the Billboard Latin Songs chart, while "Corazón Sin Cara" followed as another single.

Royce resurfaced in 2012 with Phase II, whose singles comprised "Las Cosas Pequeñas," "Incondicional" and "Te Me Vas." The album earned platinum certification, reaching number 16 on the Billboard 200 after moving more than 100,000 units. His third studio outing, 2013's Soy el Mismo, spotlighted the tracks "Darte un Beso" and "Te Robaré" and also presented the duet "Already Missing You" with Selena Gomez. The 2014 single "Stuck on a Feeling," featuring Snoop Dogg, previewed Double Vision, Royce's first collection sung predominantly in English; that set arrived the following year with guest appearances from Jennifer Lopez, Tyga and Kid Ink. A co-headlining trek with Ariana Grande and a part in the live production The Passion rounded out the period. In 2017 he returned with the Latin-pop-focused fifth album FIVE, which peaked at number 25 on the U.S. Top 200 and claimed the top Latin slot; its final single, "Déjà Vu" with Shakira, achieved nine-times platinum status.

During 2018 and 2019 Royce joined forces with an array of artists on multiple singles, among them "Bubalú" alongside producers DJ Luian and Mambo Kingz, rapper Anuel AA and American vocalist Becky G. The track reached the Top 30 of Hot Latin Songs in the United States. Late that year he married actress and model Emeraude Toubia following an extended courtship. Most of 2019 was devoted to preparing his sixth studio record. Released in February 2020, Alter Ego marked the first double studio album by a Latin artist in ten years; divided into the subtitled sections Genesis and Enigma, it ranged across romantic and street bachata as well as R&B, Latin pop, hip-hop, trap and electro. Ten charting singles emerged from the project, including "Trabada" with Zion & Lennox and "Adicto" with Marc Anthony, while additional collaborations involved Maluma, Dani Leigh and Wisin & Yandel. A world tour commenced shortly after the release date. The album topped both the Latin and Tropical albums charts and led streaming rankings.

Further singles arrived in 2021: "Antes Que Salga el Sol," a joint effort with Natti Natasha, and "Lao' a Lao'." Royce also appeared on Mau y Ricky's Top Ten hit "Doctor." In 2022 he issued "Te Espero" with María Becerra and "Si Te Preguntan..." alongside Nicky Jam and Jay Wheeler, closing the year with the solo cut "Otra Vez." Anticipation for the next project continued with the 2023 singles "Le Doy 20 Mil" featuring El Alfa and "Me EnRD," followed in 2024 by "Cosas de la Peda" with Gabito Ballesteros.
