Born Juan Carlos Ozuna Rosado in Puerto Rico, the singer and songwriter known professionally as Ozuna has collected multiple awards and set several records during his reggaeton career. Out of deference to his daughter he produces uplifting material free of profanity that urges listeners to chase their ambitions. The 2016 single “La Ocasión” brought initial prominence when it reached the Top 30 on Hot Latin Songs; a series of prominent collaborations followed before the arrival of his first full-length project, Odisea, in 2017. That album ascended to number one, a position the artist later duplicated with the urbano-oriented Nibiru in 2019, Enoc in 2020, and the 2021 release Los Dioses, marking his third joint album with Anuel AA. OzuTochi appeared in 2022, succeeded by the surprise drop of Cosmo near the close of 2023. Spain welcomed the 2024 single “Guay” with Bad Gyal into its Top Ten.

Songwriting began for Ozuna at age twelve while he was still based in Puerto Rico; he later lived in New York City prior to his professional ascent. A recording contract arrived in 2014, after which he began uploading singles to online platforms. By 2015 tracks such as “Si Tu Marido No Te Quiere” had become radio staples throughout Latin America, and he had already staged concerts across multiple countries. Early in 2016 he appeared alongside DJ Luian, Mambo Kingz, De la Ghetto, Arcángel, and Anuel AA on “La Ocasión,” initiating a modest chart trajectory for the emerging artist. Later that year a remix of “No Quiere Enamorarse” featuring Daddy Yankee accumulated millions of streams. Subsequent singles “Dile Que Tu Me Quieres,” “Si Tu Marido No Te Quiere [Remix],” and “En la Intimidad” each entered the Top 30.

Odisea, his debut album, arrived in 2017 and showcased guest turns from De la Ghetto, Anuel AA, J Balvin, and additional contributors; among its tracks were the singles “Tell Him That You Love Him,” “Your Photo,” and “A Flower.” The set opened at number one on Top Latin Albums in September. Further partnerships that year involved Daddy Yankee, Wisin, J Balvin, and Chris Jeday, among others. The high-profile 2018 duet “La Modelo” with Cardi B became Ozuna’s first Hot 100 entry. His second album, Aura, followed later that year, reaching the Top Ten on the Billboard 200 while again debuting at number one on the Latin Albums chart. By age twenty-seven the multi-platinum Puerto Rican-Dominican vocalist had secured four Guinness world records: the most videos to surpass one billion YouTube views, the longest solo reign at number one on Top Latin Albums (achieved by Odisea), the highest number of Billboard Latin Music Award nominations (twenty-three across fifteen categories), and the most wins by any single artist (eleven).

More than a handful of charting singles emerged in 2019, among them “Baila Baila Baila” (plus two successful remixes), “Amor Genuino,” “Vacía Sin Mí” with Darell, “Yo x Ti, Tu x Mi” with Rosalía, “Muito Calor” with Anitta, and “Hasta Que Salga el Sol.” Nibiru, an eighteen-track set named after a pseudoscientific planet, was issued in late November and became his third consecutive number-one debut on the Latin Albums chart. Ozuna described the project as urbano rather than reggaeton. In addition to several of the aforementioned singles, it contained collaborations with Diddy and DJ Snake on “Eres Top,” Snoop Dogg and Anuel AA on “Patek,” Dalex and Nicky Jam on “Reggaeton in Paris,” Swae Lee on “Sin Pensar,” and Sech on “Yo Tengo Una Gata.” The April 2020 single “Temporal” with Willy Rodríguez of Cultura Profética followed, and he joined the Black Eyed Peas and J. Rey Soul on “Mamacita” from the album Translation. The summery track “Caramelo” appeared a couple of months later.

Enoc, his fourth album, surfaced in September 2020. Alongside “Caramelo” it featured the advance singles “Del Mar” with Sia and Doja Cat and “Una Locura” with J Balvin and Chencho Corleone. The twenty-track collection also included appearances by Cosculluela, Myke Towers, Wisin, Arcángel, and Juanka on the steamy opener “Enigma Ocultos,” Zion & Lennox on “Que Tu Esperas,” and both Towers and Karol G on the “Caramelo” remix. The release entered Top Latin Albums at number one and led numerous streaming rankings. January 2021 brought the third collaborative album from Anuel AA and Ozuna, the twelve-track Los Dioses, which opened at number one on both the Latin Albums and Latin streaming charts.

Later that year Ozuna issued the bachata single “Señor Juez,” then released tracks such as “Deprimida” and “G Wagon” in 2022. His fifth album, OzuTochi, arrived in October; the diverse eighteen-track set traced his Puerto Rican and Dominican roots while spanning dembow on “Perreo y Dembow,” techno-fueled merengue on “Un Lio,” baile funk on “Cielos Rosado,” rock on “La Copa,” EDM, and his signature reggaeton romántico on “Vida,” “Mañana,” and “Favorita.” Contributors included Arcángel, Chencho Corleone, Feid, J Balvin, and Danny Ocean, among others. Upon release the album entered the Top Latin Albums chart at number five.

In 2023 Ozuna explored Afrobeats on the seven-song EP Afro, and in November he announced the imminent arrival of Cosmo. Released one week later, the varied fifteen-track project featured Chencho Corleone, Sky Rompiendo, Maldy, De la Ghetto, Anuel AA, Chris Jedi, David Guetta, Jhayco, Lito MC Cassidy, and numerous additional guests. The 2024 pairing with Bad Gyal on “Guay” reached Spain’s Top Ten.
