Jowell & Randy rank among Puerto Rico’s most enduring and widely toured reggaeton acts, prized as much for their infectious rhythms as for their sharp-witted, frequently comic lyrics. From the early 2000s onward they have released scores of singles, albums, and mixtapes, establishing themselves as consistent live draws and steady chart performers. Their 2010 album El Momento reached number two on the Top Latin Albums chart, while Sobredoxis, issued three years later, entered at number ten. The pair have maintained close ties throughout the Latin and reggaeton scenes; two of their strongest successes arrived late in the decade with the 2017 single “Bonita,” which featured J Balvin, and 2019’s “Dile la Verdad,” a collaboration with Manuel Turizo. Further momentum arrived with the gold-certified Viva el Perreo in 2020 and the consecutive 2024 releases Viva La Musik and Mazorkeo.com.

Joel Muñoz Martínez and Randy Ortiz Acevedo each spent the late 1990s building individual profiles on the expanding reggaeton circuit before officially uniting as a duo in 2001, at which point their recording careers accelerated. During the same period they also belonged to the reggaeton collective Casa de Leones. Their first single, “Agresivo” featuring Arcángel, appeared in 2006; the self-titled Casa de Leones album and their own mixtape Los Más Sueltos del Reggaetón followed in 2007. Although the album failed to chart, the duo’s tracks surfaced repeatedly on Boy Wonder’s Chosen Few compilations, while Randy’s featured turns on De la Ghetto’s 2006 track “Sensacion del Bloque” and Tito el Bambino’s 2007 hit “Siente el Boom” further elevated their visibility. Shortly before El Momento’s 2010 release they put out the nineteen-track mixtape Tengan Paciencia, which yielded five singles that year, among them “Loco,” a number-three entry on the Tropical Songs chart.

After nonstop touring in 2011, Jowell & Randy returned to the studio for the mixtape Predoxis and the album Sobredoxis; the latter generated six singles across the following two years, including “Báilalo a Lo Loco” with 3Ball MTY. Their 2014 mixtape Under Doxis produced three additional club successes, among them “Lo Que Quiero,” which reached number eleven on the Latin Rhythms chart, plus four charting collaborations: “Pa’ La Pared” with Cosculluela, “Bella Que Que” with R.K.M., “She Likes My Reggae” with Gomba Jahbari, and “Lentamente” alongside J Álvarez and Zion & Lennox. La Alcaldía del Perreo arrived in 2016, led by the single and video for “Guadalupe” and followed by clips for “La Pista Revienta” and “Me Prefieren” featuring Nengo Flow. Additional videos for the Mr. Williamz remix of “Guadalupe” and the album cut “Posición 4” surfaced in 2017, the same year the duo released “Bonita” with J Balvin, a track that topped the Mexican singles chart.

Despite an exhaustive touring itinerary spanning Europe and South America, they waited more than a year before reentering the studio. Early 2019 brought “Dile la Verdad” with Manuel Turizo, followed in 2020 by their sixth studio album, Viva el Perreo, which attained gold status, peaked at number five on Billboard’s Latin chart, and included another J Balvin collaboration, “Anaranjado.” In subsequent years the duo made occasional guest appearances, among them De La Ghetto’s 2021 “Perreo Intenso” and Maluma’s 2023 track “Copas.” Their return proved prolific: Viva La Musik, a sixteen-song set featuring Wisin & Yandel, Rauw Alejandro, and Nicky Jam, surfaced in June 2024, and five months later they delivered Mazorkeo.com, an album containing only one featured appearance, by Myke Towers.
