Biography
Jefnier Osorio, performing as Lunay, developed as a Puerto Rican rapper and Latin trap vocalist whose early chart entries alongside Daddy Yankee, Anuel AA, Bad Bunny, and Zion & Lennox secured him a recording contract. During 2019 he released ten singles under his own name along with six additional joint tracks and his first full-length project, Épico. His slightly grainy baritone and smooth phrasing propelled “A Solas,” the remix titled “Legale,” and “Soltera” (produced by Chris Jeday and Gaby Music) onto streaming rankings throughout the United States and Caribbean territories, while his videos accumulated nearly a billion views. He resurfaced in 2021 with the follow-up album El Niño.
Born on the island in 2000, Lunay favored soccer over music in his early teens yet became captivated at age fifteen. One year later he began crafting freestyle raps and posting them on Facebook and SoundCloud. He practiced by improvising in front of his soccer teammates. Several of those clips spread rapidly online, and his soulful, inventive delivery drew the notice of producers Chris Jeday and Gaby Music, who offered him a production agreement and introduced him to leading figures in trap and reggaeton.
He remained largely inside the studio throughout 2018, emerging only for scattered live shows. By spring 2019 he appeared prominently on multiple charts both solo and in featured roles. “A Solas” and its remix earned nominations for National Song of the Year and Remix of the Year at the inaugural Latin Urban Music Awards held in Puerto Rico. The follow-up single “Soltera” reached number 73 on the Hot 100, while its remix climbed to number 28 on the Emerging Artists chart. He toured Europe in early summer 2019 and performed at that year’s Premios Juventud, where he received the Best New Artist trophy. Just fourteen months after his career began, he issued the debut album Épico in late October. The project featured numerous guests, among them Wisin y Yandel on “Mi Favorita,” Myke Towers on “La Cama,” Anuel AA and Ozuna on “Aventura,” and Daddy Yankee and Bad Bunny on the “Soltera” remix. Through the first half of 2020 Lunay issued a series of EPs—Noche de Travesuras, Si Te Dejas Llevar, and Esta de Moda—and later joined Haze and Jhay Cortez for the single “Prendemos.” He returned in May 2021 with his second album, El Niño, which peaked at number 17 on the Latin Albums chart. The standalone track “787” appeared later that year.
