Biography
Hailing from Puerto Rico, Alex Rose has built an international career as a urbano performer who sings, raps, writes songs, and produces his own material. His reedy baritone moves fluidly across tracks that fuse reggaeton and trap with edgy R&B, cumbia, and hip-hop influences. The independently released debut single “Orgasmo” arrived in 2016. Since then he has put out more than 40 singles and remixes under his own name, among them the 2018 international chart hit “Toda Remix,” the album Lost in 2019, and 2021’s “Shaggy Remix.”
Rose was born in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico. Drawn to music from his earliest steps, he spent his childhood and early teenage years entering one singing and dancing competition after another. Shaped by the sounds of Daddy Yankee, Don Omar, and Arcángel, he began filming his own videos and recording tracks for YouTube. In 2016, a submitted demo led to a contract with the independent Los Oidos Fresh label and the release of his first single, “Orgasmo.” Later that year came “Sexo” featuring Miky Woodz, “Maldad” featuring Jayma and Dalex, and “Percocet.” Although none reached the charts, the releases helped establish radio and video presence. During 2017 he delivered the club track “Loco Loquito” featuring Jory Boy and a collaborative remix of “Percocet” that included Lenny Tavarez, Chris Wandell, and Quimico Ultra Mega.
His first chart entry came with the 2018 Sexflix EP, which appeared in three countries. Breakthrough arrived via “Toda Remix” featuring Rauw Alejandro and Lenny Tavarez. The single reached the Top 40 in 13 countries; its video amassed more than 640 million views in that year alone and has since surpassed 1.3 billion. The song also remained on the U.S. charts for 18 weeks. Nine of the twelve singles he issued that year, including “More More” featuring Jory Boy and “Me Frontio” featuring Justin Quiles and Dimelo Flow, registered on Latin American and Caribbean charts.
In 2019 Rose released his debut album Lost. Three of its seven tracks—“Jangueo,” “Todos Ven,” and “Ontas Remix”—were issued as charting singles. Additional streaming successes included “Mala Fama” featuring D.OZI and “Control” featuring De la Ghetto.
Although the COVID-19 pandemic halted touring in support of Lost, output continued unabated. Throughout 2020 he released or collaborated on 11 singles, among them the internationally charting “Sex Toy” with Hozwal, “Swaggy” featuring Arcángel, and “Toque de Queda.” He also paired with Emilia on “Bendición” and with Corina Smith on the widely praised “Pasatiempo.”
In 2021 Rose appeared on Decoro and Kura’s “Mi Siento Bien,” a striking Afro-Latin dance-club track that wove together salsa, reggaeton, trap, and electro. His own “Me Fije” featuring Rauw Alejandro surfaced in March, charting in 13 countries including Spain, Argentina, and Colombia while accumulating more than 80 million streams. June brought “Belinda,” a collaboration with Marcus & Martinus that reached the Top 20 throughout the Caribbean. At the close of August he issued “Swaggy Remix” featuring Arcángel and Brytiago.
