Gigolo y La Exce, the Latin duo consisting of Ronald “Gigolo” Rafael Tejeda Santos and Jean “La Exce” Carlos Ferreira Suero, first reached mainstream audiences during the mid-2010s Latin trap wave. By the close of the decade the pair had steered their music toward more melodic territory, scoring urbano successes such as the Bad Bunny collaboration “Sexto Sentido” and the all-star “Rasta Barbie (Remix).”

The two Puerto Rican rapper-singers became close during high school and assembled the act specifically to enter the local contest Reggaetón con Flow, where their vocal interplay and songwriting immediately stood out. Santos adopted the name Gigolo, drawn from his earlier partnership Ronal & Tassi “Los Gigolos,” while Suero shortened “La Excelencia” to La Exce. Their first release, the sexually charged Latin trap single “Nasty” in 2015, showcased Gigolo’s airy, high-register delivery alongside La Exce’s nasal, lower tone. A Farruko appearance on the “Nasty (Remix)” and a contract with Arcángel’s Flow Factory quickly raised their profile, leading into 2016 singles “FaceTime,” “Pauta,” and “Griselda,” the last of which received a further remix featuring Arcángel and Bryant Myers.

In 2017 the duo pivoted toward smoother, reggaeton-leaning material. They began the year with the melodic tracks “Acura” and “Te Robo,” both issued in remixed versions—the former with Jory and Miky Woodz, the latter with Arcángel and De La Ghetto. Their largest success arrived via “Sexto Sentido,” a brooding, melody-driven trap cut recorded with the then-rising Bad Bunny that later surpassed 500 million streams. After wrapping the year with “Louis Vuitton,” they issued a steady run of singles and guest spots throughout 2018 and 2019, highlighted by the 100-million-stream “Rasta Barbie” and its star-packed remix featuring Myke Towers, Farruko, Arcángel, and El Alfa. That remix served as the lead single for their debut EP, Las Torres; after another hit, the Justin Quiles-assisted “Sativa,” the project arrived in September 2020. In 2021 the duo launched the campaign for their first album with the tracks “De la Mata,” “Insegura” alongside Arcángel, and “Chantaje” with Jay Wheeler.
