Biography
Emerging onto the reggaeton and dancehall landscapes in 2018, Panamanian multi-hyphenate Sech—active as singer, rapper, songwriter, and producer—made his entrance via the slinky, seductive Rich Music World debut single “Little Miss Lonely,” which included guest turns from Justin Quiles and De la Ghetto. Previously anchored in Panama’s El Combo de Oro production collective, the urbano artist transitioned to solo work and quickly became the most prominent, media-savvy figure on the nation’s music circuit within just a few years. His sharp rhythmic and lyrical acuity surfaced clearly on tracks such as “¡Que Más Pues!” (featuring Justin Quiles), which accumulated more than 63 million views inside its opening three months, and “Otro Trago” (featuring Darell), which gathered nearly 133 million views in a single month. Both cuts appeared on his 2019 debut album Sueños, which debuted at the summit of Panama’s charts. Those achievements positioned Sech as his country’s top-selling musician and a broader Latin-music phenomenon, clearing the path for the follow-up 1 of 1 in 2020; that set reached number four on Billboard’s Top Latin Albums chart and yielded the Latin Grammy-nominated single “Si Te Vas” with Ozuna. He returned to the Latin top ten with 2021’s 42, scored another hit via “Foto en Panty” from the 2022 EP Ya Casi Vienen, and resurfaced in 2024 with his fourth studio album, Tranki, Todo Pasa.
Born Carlos Isaías Morales Williams in Rio Abajo, Panama, in December 1993, Sech grew up inside a devout evangelical Christian household whose members included numerous pastors. During his early years he sang regularly in church and studied piano, guitar, bass, and additional instruments. At age thirteen he and his brother started a band devoted to original material, though his family at first discouraged non-religious repertoire. One year later he began entering singing and songwriting contests, securing multiple victories and ultimately gaining family endorsement of his talent as God-given. He acquired production expertise and earned membership in the storied Panamanian El Combo de Oro roster alongside mentor Rafita, mastering recording, writing, singing, rapping, and production across salsa, son, bachata, and reggaeton.
Sech unveiled his first video single, “El Kbreo de Tu Pollo,” in 2015 with R.D. Maravilla, Real Phantom, Mr. Fox, and Robinho; the track received substantial radio airplay and a solid YouTube view count. Several months afterward he issued the video single “Sentimientos de Papel” (featuring El Blopa and El Tachi), which surpassed six million views within three years. Strong initial response spurred further creative momentum. That November he released the now-iconic video single “El Grammy” (featuring Robinho and El Blopa) under El Combo de Oro production. The three releases generated demand for his 2016 breakthrough single; across that year he dropped four additional tracks—“El Error,” “X 4 Días,” “Ella Es,” and “Admítelo”—each accompanied by a high-ranking video and all produced by El Combo de Oro. Early in 2017 he issued “Tocó Mentir” and the first non-El Combo de Oro production, “Mintiendo y Enamorando” (featuring Jhon El Divertido), helmed by Rikemusic.
Over the ensuing two-and-a-half years Sech maintained a high profile, issuing ten charting singles of his own while also appearing as featured artist alongside Maluma, Dalex, Bad Bunny, Anuel AA, and Karol G. In 2019 he released the video and streaming singles “Solita” (featuring Farruko and Zion & Lennox), “Falsas Promesas,” and “Tiene Novio” (featuring Manuel Turizo). The remix of “Little Miss Lonely” performed on par with the original. March 2019 saw Sueños arrive via Rich Music World and debut at number one on the urban streaming charts. In August the single “Otro Trago” (featuring Darell) ascended to the top of the Hot Latin Songs, Latin Streaming Songs, and Latin Digital Song Sales charts; its remix, which added Anuel AA, collected five million streams in its first week and became a summertime urbano anthem.
Sech sustained the intense pace into 2020. February brought the single and video “Ignorantes” with Bad Bunny, which amassed 150 million views, entered the Hot 100 top fifty, while “Sigues con Él” alongside Arcángel also charted. May 2020 delivered the sophomore album 1 of 1, which peaked at number four on the Top Latin Albums chart and earned a Latin Grammy nomination for Best Reggaeton Performance for “Si Te Vas” with Ozuna.
His third solo project, 42, arrived in 2021, fronted by the single “911” and featuring Arcángel, Wisin & Yandel, Nicky Jam, and Rauw Alejandro; the set became Sech’s third to reach the U.S. Latin top ten. “Noche de Teteo” surfaced in 2022, followed later that year by the EP Ya Casi Vienen, which contained the hit “Foto en Panty.”
After further collaborations with Tainy and J Balvin, Sech issued his fourth full-length, Tranki, Todo Pasa, in 2024, once more broadening his reggaeton and Afrobeat palette. The album contained “Picasso” and “Casa de Miami,” plus appearances by Elena Rose, Beéle, and additional guests.
