Alexis & Fido

Raul “Alexis” Ortiz and Joel “Fido” Martinez had each been active in Puerto Rico’s reggaeton scene since their teenage years, yet their first joint effort came only in 2001 on the compilation Desafio. Limited to a single slot, the two artists pooled their talents on “El Nalgazo,” which soon received steady airplay across Puerto Rican radio. Encouraged by that response, they formed a permanent duo and expanded their reach by placing tracks on assorted compilations and mixtapes, among them the regional favorite “El Tiburon” that appeared on Luny Tunes’ Mas Flow, Vol. 2. Because they routinely barked onstage, the pair became known as Los Pitbulls; under that name they issued The Pitbulls in 2005. The album climbed to number four on the Top Latin Albums chart and also registered on the Billboard 200. The following year brought Los Reyes del Perreo, a set that gathered nine of their established songs together with five new recordings.
