Wisin & Yandel, born Juan Morera and Lladel Vegilla, stand as reggaeton’s top-selling duo and one of its most resilient acts. From their start in 1998, Wisin, previously a theater student, and Yandel, who had worked as a barber, gravitated toward Caribbean dancehall traditions, especially those rooted in Panama and Puerto Rico, while absorbing hip-hop production techniques. Their style blends bright pop hooks with romantic melodies, often wrapped in echo-laden production and densely stacked rhythms that showcase the instinctive pacing of their raps, chants, and vocals. Like many early figures in the genre, they first appeared on record through scattered tracks placed on DJ compilations.

By the release of their debut album, Reyes del Nuevo Milenio, in 2000, they had already registered on the charts and were performing throughout the Caribbean, Latin America, and the United States. Every subsequent single and album reached notable chart positions, yielding more than a dozen number-one singles and consistent Top 20 placements for their LPs. Global visibility rose with De Otra Manera in 2004, Mi Vida: La Pelicula in 2005, and Pa’l Mundo in 2007; the latter claimed the top Latin album position on Billboard and introduced them to listeners outside Spanish-speaking markets. Pa’l Mundo carried guest spots from reggaeton star Daddy Yankee and Aventura. Los Vaqueros arrived in 2006 as a collective project featuring affiliates Tony Dize, Gadiel, and Jayko.

Following the sustained success of Pa’l Mundo, the duo issued several projects in 2007: the studio album Los Extraterrestres, the remix set Los Vaqueros: Wild Wild Mixes, the live recording Tomando Control, and the archival collection 2010 Lost Edition. La Revolución, released in 2009, incorporated greater electronic textures and dance elements, backed by an extensive world tour later captured on the 2010 live albums La Revolución Live, Vol. 1 and Vol. 2.

Early in 2011 they returned with their eighth studio album, Los Vaqueros: El Regreso, a crew-focused effort recalling the 2006 Los Vaqueros project. It debuted at number one on the Top Latin Albums chart and remained on the ranking for 68 weeks. After completing a year-long international tour, the pair entered a temporary hiatus to pursue solo work while signaling future collaboration. Despite media speculation about personal friction, Yandel publicly confirmed the break was only temporary.

Wisin released his solo album El Regreso del Sobreviviente in early 2014, while Yandel issued De Líder a Leyenda and embarked on his own tour. That September each separately confirmed they were preparing a new track, which debuted live during a Yandel concert in Puerto Rico in October. In the summer of 2017 they reunited on Yandel’s single “Como Antes,” marking their official return as a duo. In November, Wisin featured both Yandel and Daddy Yankee on his track “Todo Comienza en la Disco.” February 2018 brought the formal announcement of their reunion, followed by a June performance at Madison Square Garden during New York’s Puerto Rican Day Parade weekend while they continued recording.

October saw the release of “Reggaetón en lo Oscuro” as the lead single for their tenth album, Los Campeones del Pueblo (The Big Leagues), which arrived in December and contained seven collaborations across fourteen tracks, among them “Dame Algo” (feat. Bad Bunny), “Deseo” (feat. Zion & Lennox), “Aullando” (feat. Romeo Santos), and “Collao” (feat. Ozuna). The set reached number two on the Top Latin Albums chart. Further success followed with the six-times-platinum Daddy Yankee collaboration “Si Supieras” plus appearances on Jhay Cortez’ “Imaginaste,” Sech’s “Ganas de Ti,” and Manuel Turizo’s “Mala Costumbre.” In subsequent years the duo concentrated on solo endeavors: Yandel delivered the long-awaited Quien Contra Mi 2 in 2020 and joined Tainy on “Dynasty” in 2021, while Wisin partnered with Los Legendarios on Los Legendarios 001, which included the chart-topping 2021 hit “Fiel.” Late in 2021 they began work on their eleventh album with the Afrobeats-tinged single “Recordar.”
