Hailing from Caracas, Venezuela, the chart-topping Latin duo Mau y Ricky comprises the offspring of renowned vocalist Ricardo Montaner. The brothers initially worked as songwriters before emerging as certified hitmakers throughout the 2010s, achieving their breakthrough with the 2018 "Mi Mala (Remix)," which reached the Top Ten in both Spain and Argentina. That same year brought two major successes: the Sebastián Yatra-assisted "Ya No Tiene Novio," which topped the U.S. Latin Airplay chart, and the Camilo and Manuel Turizo collaboration "Desconocidos," which surpassed a billion streams while earning Platinum status across five regions. Their debut album, Para Aventuras and Curiosidades, housed these tracks along with the Camilo-assisted "La Boca" and peaked at number three on Billboard's Latin Charts. The 2020 follow-up, Rifresh, yielded the single "Papás," while further entries included the Carlos Vives and Lucy Vives collaboration "Besos en Cualquier Horario," the 2022 release "No Puede Ser" featuring Eladio Carrion, and "Llorar y Llorar" with Carin León. The Desgenerados Mixtape surfaced in 2023 and spotlighted the summery anthem "Miami."

Guided by their father, Mauricio "Mau" and Ricardo "Ricky" Reglero Rodriguez began musical training at ages four and six, later joining his backing band. Performing earlier as MR, they issued the ballads "Hoy" and "Hasta Que Te Hagas Mayor" in 2011, followed by "Preguntas" in 2013 and "Iré Tras de Tí" in 2014. During this period they built a reputation as songwriters, contributing hits for artists such as Thalía ("Porlo que Reste de Vida"), Leslie Grace ("Aire"), Diego Boneta ("Éramos Algo" and "Llamado de Atención"), Ednita Nazario ("Ya No Me Duele Tanto"), Yuridia ("Mentira"), and Brian Cross ("Hielo" with Miguel Bosé). After rebranding as Mau y Ricky in 2015, they returned with "Voy Que Quemo" in 2016 and released the Sony EP Arte in 2017, which showcased their voices across soaring pop and intimate singer/songwriter styles. Closing the year with the Karol G collaboration "Mi Mala," they secured initial chart traction via its remix and its Top Ten showings in Spain and Argentina. Their momentum accelerated in 2018 with consecutive standouts: the Sebastián Yatra-assisted "Ya No Tiene Novio" entered full pop territory, reached number one on U.S. Latin Airplay, and earned widespread certifications including Double-Diamond in Mexico and Platinum in Spain, while the Camilo- and Manuel Turizo-featuring "Desconocidos" ultimately accumulated over a billion streams and five Platinum awards. Completing the run of singles, "La Boca" joined the others on Para Aventuras and Curiosidades, issued that May; the set reached number three on Billboard's Latin charts and later attained Gold status. Rifresh arrived in 2020 alongside tracks such as "Papás," "Bota Fuego" with Nicky Jam, and the family-oriented "Amén" featuring Ricardo Montaner, Evaluna Montaner, and Camilo. In 2021 the duo notched a chart-topper in three countries via "Besos en Cualquier Horario" with Carlos Vives and Lucy Vives, while "Mal Acostrumbrao" with María Becerra posted strong streaming figures. Two Billboard Latin Pop hits followed in 2022—"No Puede Ser" featuring Eladio Carrion and "Llorar y Llorar" with Carin León—before the ode to the beach city, "Miami," launched in February 2023 as part of the full-length Desgenerados Mixtape released that July.
