Biography
Born in Puerto Rico, Chesca now makes her home in Los Angeles, where she works as a pop singer. Her alto voice, open and charged with feeling, fuses Latin pop, reggaeton, soul, hip-hop, and R&B without apparent strain. Michael and Janet Jackson left a lasting impression on her during childhood, leading her to enroll in multiple academies dedicated to the arts and music. Professional work began at age 11 when she joined her father’s cover band, Flashback.
A Sony executive caught one of her Flashback sets at a sizable private event and expressed interest in signing her, yet a severe boating accident intervened first. Months of hospitalization and fourteen reconstructive operations spread across several years followed. Throughout that period she continued performing with the band, finding that the activity distracted her from daily hardship. School and street encounters brought relentless bullying, but the stage remained a refuge; there she appeared in an oversized, fashionable hat that concealed her injuries.
At twenty-one she completed her last operation and committed fully to music. Miami became her first stop, where she secured the lead vocal role in the PCD Burlesque Review and issued her debut solo single, “Azucar,” in 2018. Relocating next to Los Angeles, she partnered with Gustavo Lopez, chairman and CEO of Saban Music Group, who turned her artistic goals into tangible projects.
The 2019 single “La Reina de Blanco,” released on Mr. 305 Records, united her with Pitbull, Giorgio Moroder, and Raney Shockne. Lopez, previously an executive at Universal, refined her style and broadened her vocal range. Two charting singles emerged in 2020—“Deja de Hablar” featuring Jon Z and “Te Quiero Baby” with Pitbull and Frankie Valli of the Four Seasons—while she also appeared alongside John Travolta and Jon Z during Pitbull’s four-song set at the Premio Nuestro awards.
“Subelo,” featuring Pitbull, Static, and Ben El, delivered her first number-one hit and counted as one of eight singles and videos she put out that same year; additional 2021 releases included “El Cambio (Mariachi)” with Grupo Firme, “Como Tu” featuring De la Ghetto and Offset, and “Tu Weekend.”
“TuTuRu” opened 2022, followed in June by pop and reggaeton remixes of the track recorded with Nio Garcia. August brought “Piensas en Mi” alongside Alejo, and October saw the release of the feminist neo-electro club anthem “Activa,” credited to Chesca, Villano Antillano, and Corina Smith.
