Biography
Nathy Peluso, the Argentine singer-songwriter, shifted from underground circles to wider recognition after collecting Latin Grammy nominations for her distinctive approach to Latin trap and neo-soul, a sound both direct and controlled that defined her platinum-certified debut album Calambre, which arrived in 2020.
She entered the world in Luján, Buenos Aires, where her listening centered on jazz and soul figures such as Ella Fitzgerald and Ray Charles alongside the Latin traditions of João Gilberto and Ray Barretto. When she reached the age of 11, her family moved to Spain, leading her first to studies in Murcia and later to Madrid.
Her initial EP, Esmerelda, surfaced in 2017 and mixed hip-hop, neo-soul, and Latin ingredients, prompting coverage from the country’s music outlets. La Sandunguera followed in 2018 and prompted Peluso to tour through Spain, the rest of Europe, and Latin America.
In 2019 she issued tracks including “Natikillah” and “Copa Glasé,” brought out her first book, Deja Que Te Combata, a gathering of personal reflections, and secured a contract with Sony Music.
The next year opened with several singles, among them one pairing her with Spanish rapper Rels B; Calambre then appeared in October and received a Grammy nomination while also earning Peluso 2020 Latin Grammy nods for Best New Artist and Best Alternative Song for “Buenos Aires.” She continued in 2021 with the assertive, salsa-colored single “Mafiosa.”
