Biography
C. Tangana functions as a Spanish vocalist, emcee, and composer while holding membership in the Agorazein crew alongside Sticky M.A., Jerv, Agz., Fabianni, and I-Ace and simultaneously developing his own solo output.
Strongly shaped by the Beastie Boys, his initial work emerged in 2006 under the Crema alias during graduate studies under his birth name Antón Álvarez Alfaro, beginning with the EP Él Es Crema. Minimal response greeted that release, yet he continued by issuing both the EP Septiembre and the album El Es Crema. The next year brought the EP Desde La Ventana del Bloque together with the album Ego; videos and club-DJ support helped these projects earn substantial critical and public approval. Multiple joint ventures occupied the following years, during which he issued no further material under his own name.
Kind of Red surfaced in 2011 and introduced C. Tangana as an Agorazein participant. His independently released, self-titled debut solo album appeared the same year and drew favorable notices. Love's in 2012 displayed his signature approach, one that merges traditional Spanish and Latin music with EDM, trap, and hip-hop. The 2014 mixtape Trouble + Presidente preceded the 2015 tape 10/15, built entirely from Drake material, which moved past rap audiences to reach a broad crossover listenership.
Two years afterward, C. Tangana delivered the summer anthem “Antes de Morirme” featuring rising flamenco sensation Rosalía, lifting his profile across Spain as well as Latin America, Miami, and New York City in the United States. The follow-up pair—the sultry, balladic soul single “Persiguiéndonos” and the roiling, spacy Latin trap of “Lo Have Commigo”—illustrated his range and ongoing musical restlessness.
Relentless after these breakthroughs, he signed with Sony, which issued several pre-release singles in 2017 including “Pop Ur Pussy” and “Mala Mujer.” The latter appeared on streaming charts in Spain, throughout Latin America, and across Europe; a remix featuring Farruko and French Montana achieved comparable results. Ídolo, his first full-length for the label, arrived in October and reached number four on Spanish album streaming charts. The following year he released Avida Dollars and later scored a hit with the stand-alone single “Booty” featuring Becky G and Alizzz. Alfaro concluded the 2010s with a prolific sequence of singles that ended with the Bien:( EP in 2020. “Demasiadas Mujeres” and “Tú Me Dejaste de Querer” preceded his next album, the Grammy-nominated El Madrileño.
