Adapting her polished delivery across the full spectrum of urbano styles, the Miami-based singer and rapper Mariah Angeliq broke through in 2019 via the retro-flavored single “Perreito,” then secured her first worldwide success by joining Karol G on the billion-stream track “EL MAKINON.”

Mariah Angelique Pérez, daughter of a Cuban father and a Puerto Rican mother, grew up in Miami, Florida, and started composing songs at sixteen under the abbreviated name Mariah. An introduction to reggaeton producer Nely opened doors throughout the Latin industry; early notice arrived with her take on Bad Bunny’s “Amorfoda,” leading to a contract with UMG when she was still eighteen. Her initial release, the Vibras-tinged “Blah,” drew an array of prominent features, including the Casper Mágico-assisted “Blah (Remix),” the Myke Towers collaboration “Celos,” and a spot on Jhay Cortez’s “Costear (Remix).” That same year’s “Perreito” became her first major success, channeling classic reggaeton energy and surpassing thirty million streams by December while spawning a remix featuring Arcángel and Darell.

A subsequent Guaynaa joint, “Taxi,” registered modest traction before Mariah adopted the fuller moniker Mariah Angeliq and unveiled her debut EP, Normal. Further 2020 cuts alongside Brray (“Y Qué Pasó?”), Takagi & Ketra (“Ciclone”), and Omar Montes (“Qué Te Pasó?”) rounded out a varied slate that was soon overshadowed by her prominent role on Karol G’s “EL MAKINON.” Serving as the lead single for the album KG0516, the effortlessly sleek duet ultimately exceeded one billion streams, logged twenty-six weeks on Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs chart, and reached a peak position of number six. Throughout the rest of 2021 she continued releasing singles, scoring smaller successes with the Bad Gyal and María Becerra team-up “BOBO” and the Luísa Sonza pairing “ANACONDA *o* ~~~.”
