Biography
Born in 1975 as Carlos Daniel Crespo Planas in Ponce, Puerto Rico, the reggaeton performer known as Ñejo received that nickname repeatedly from his mother during childhood and chose to retain it upon entering the music world. Prior to establishing himself independently, he spent an extended period performing as one half of the duo Ñejo y Dálmata, whose mid-2000s releases led to their well-received 2007 debut album Broke and Famous. Although he had already issued multiple solo efforts and joint singles over time, the 2014 project Yo Soy la Fama marked his first full-length release under his own name. Further singles followed, reflecting his ongoing refinement of a fluid approach that incorporated aspects of mainstream pop production alongside commercial R&B influences.
