Marlow Rosado distinguishes himself from conventional salsa figures as a producer, composer, and pianist who weaves rock, hip-hop, reggaeton, and bachata textures into his salsa recordings and live sets. Born in Puerto Rico, he relocated to Florida to pursue formal music training. Following completion of a master’s degree in jazz education, Rosado instructed elementary-school students while also directing orchestras, overseeing productions, and crafting arrangements in his spare time. A vocal session for Desmond Child—the Songwriting Hall of Fame inductee and frequent collaborator with Aerosmith and Bon Jovi—opened pathways to recordings with Ricky Martin and Alejandra Guzmán. In 2004 his early ambitions were realized when he contributed to the veteran ensemble El Gran Combo de Puerto Rico’s album Aquí Estamos y...¡de Verdad! Yolandita Monge featured the Marlow composition “Sentimiento Boriqueño” on her 30th album, Demasiado Fuerte, in 2006. He inaugurated his solo discography in 2009 with Salsalsa, issued by the Fania label he had known since childhood. Assignments for Charlie Cruz, India, Héctor Acosta, and a return engagement with Ricky Martin carried him forward to 2012 and his second solo album, Retro. True to its title, the project revisited salsa’s earlier chapters and earned Marlow a Grammy nomination for Best Tropical Latin Album.
