Biography
Formed in Chile in 1996, the Latin rock outfit Matahari began with keyboardist Claudio Nervi, bassist Ernesto Duboy, and guitarist Edison Belmar, who soon added singer Karla Argandoña and Andrés Baeza to the roster. Once the group laid down a demo recording steeped chiefly in American blues-rock, it hit the regional club circuit. In short order percussionist Marcelo Espíndola, drummer Max Ortíz, and singer Gloria Pérez entered the lineup. After the main vocalist exited, Ema Pinto—who had earlier supplied backup for Joe Vasconcellos—assumed the frontwoman position.
