Biography
Matt Pryor, the prolific singer, songwriter, and guitarist based in Lawrence, Kansas, launched his recording career in 1994 by joining ska-punk group Secret Decoder Ring. Twelve months later he assembled the Get Up Kids, the band that would ultimately define his trajectory. As one of the leading second wave emo rock outfits of the mid-'90s and early 2000s, the ensemble issued five acclaimed studio albums before entering hiatus in 2012. While still performing with the Get Up Kids, Pryor began releasing solo material under the name the New Amsterdams. He has also put out two children’s albums as the Terrible Twos along with several recordings credited to himself, among them Confidence Man (2008), May Day (2012), and Wrist Slitter (2013). The following year brought Nine Forty Live, an intimate concert captured at the Lawrence Arts Center in Lawrence, Kansas. Self-produced and issued by the Equal Vision label, Pryor’s fifth solo LP, Memento Mori, appeared in February 2017 and was supported by a U.S. tour.
