Biography
Max McNown, an Oregon native now based in Nashville, crafts songs with a resonant, soul-stirring delivery, emotionally direct writing, and a grounded style that draws from classic country, indie folk, and Americana traditions. His 2023 single “A Lot More Free” gained traction both domestically and abroad, setting the stage for the arrival of his first album, Wandering, the next year. In 2025 he issued his second full-length project, Night Diving.
Born in the modest Oregon community of West Linn, McNown headed to Southern California in 2022 and launched his recording career there before shifting to Nashville. Once settled in Music City, he cultivated a loyal audience through social platforms; that momentum propelled “A Lot More Free” past twenty-two million streams and onto the top spot of TikTok’s Breakthrough USA chart. The track anchored his self-titled debut EP, also released in 2023. Two additional EPs, Can’t Hide Light and Love I Got Left, followed later the same year, leading to the full-length Wandering in 2024—an effort that drew parallels to songwriters Tyler Childers and Zach Bryan. September brought yet another EP, Willfully Blind. Night Diving, his confident and emotionally open sophomore album, surfaced the subsequent year and spotlighted the popular tracks “Better Me for You (Brown Eyes),” “Marley,” and “Roses and Wolves,” the last of which features a collaboration with Hailey Whitters.
