Born in San Antonio, TX, on April 25, 1963, Michael Morales secured a Polygram Records contract in 1989. MTV exposure helped his self-titled debut, also issued that year, produce multiple successes, among them a cover of the Romantics' "What I Like About You."

The record's opening single, the hooky dance/rock cut "Who Do You Give Your Love To?," rose into the Top 20 on the U.S. pop charts that summer. Follow-up single "What I Like About You" reached number 28, outpacing the Romantics' original which missed the Top 40, and the album itself lingered on the charts for five months.

Prophetically titled Thump appeared in 1991 but could not duplicate its predecessor's performance, yielding only the minor hit "I Don't Wanna See You." Dropped by the label, Morales shifted focus to producing and writing for others, among them Selena, Flaco Jimenez, and the Texas Tornados.

Teaming with brother Ron Morales, he collected five Grammy Award nominations and three wins, including recognition for engineering Selena's live album in 1993. Michael Morales resurfaced in 1999 with That's the Way.
