Since 2020, Moody Joody have carved out a distinctive niche with polished alt-pop tracks that include “The Heat,” “Velvet Connection,” and “Ground Control.” The Nashville, Tennessee-based trio unites two former solo performers—singer and keyboardist Kayla Hall alongside singer and guitarist Kaitie Forbes—with producer and keyboardist Andrew Pacheco, fusing indie textures, classic rock energy, and mainstream radio influences. Their early material, among it “The Heat,” “Must Be Nice,” and “Dream Girl,” centers on the feminine perspective, while their sound draws on Bleachers’ emphasis on heartfelt emotion and synthesizer textures, HAIM-inspired layered vocals, and an energetic stage presence that helped them build momentum in the mid-South indie circuit after the pandemic. The 2023 release “Velvet Connection” connected strongly with audiences and led to support dates for MisterWives; the two acts later joined forces on a reissued edition of the latter’s Nosebleeds album, which also included contributions from PVRIS, Meet Me @ the Altar, Pom Pom Squad, and Betty Who. In 2024 Moody Joody issued their debut EP Dream Girl, spotlighting the tracks “Velvet Connection,” “Ground Control,” and “Cuts Deep.”
