Muriel Anderson has earned widespread respect among listeners and fellow musicians alike through the inventive flair and technical mastery she brings to classical guitar. Raised in a household steeped in music in Downers Grove, Illinois, where her mother gave piano lessons and her grandfather performed with John Philip Sousa’s band, she developed a deep attachment to the guitar during childhood. After completing classical guitar studies at DePaul University in Chicago, she trained further with Christopher Parkening and Chet Atkins. Her debut release, Music For Life, appeared in 1989 and drew strong critical praise, establishing her standing among the premier instrumentalists of her time. She maintained a steady pace of writing and recording, producing additional albums such as Arioso From Paris, A Little Christmas Gift, and Theme For Two Friends. One of these projects, Heartstrings, traveled aboard a space shuttle mission with astronauts. Beyond her concerts and discography, Anderson has issued multiple instructional videos and books.
