Biography
Mark Franklin and Nigel Champion, the Essex, England natives dubbed the “brothers of hardness,” anchored N-Joi, whose original lineup also included vocalist Saffron. The act scored its brief moment in the spotlight during 1991 with the Deconstruction Records single “Adrenalin,” a melodramatic track that earned praise from Prodigy’s Liam Howlett. Shortly afterward, the reissued “Anthem” climbed into the UK Top 10. For the same label, the duo issued Live In Manchester in February 1992, a concert recording that stretched past 28 minutes and wove together more than a dozen distinct tracks. They next delivered a comparatively straightforward EP containing Moby’s remix of the “Mindflux” single, issued in the United States through RCA Records. Saffron launched an independent foray into garage music with 1992 WEA Records releases such as “One Love.”
