Biography
Neil Davidge, a Bristol native who works as a producer, composer, and vocalist while maintaining a long-running creative partnership with Massive Attack, entered the world in England. Following an art-focused education at college, he entered the music industry during the opening years of the 1990s by joining Nick Batt and Neal Slateford in the dance act DNA. He next handled production and remixes for Exposé, Kim Appleby, and Rozalla, after which he initiated his association with Massive Attack in 1995 by helming the trip-hop ensemble’s cover of “The Hunter Gets Captured by the Game” for the Batman Forever soundtrack, a recording that included vocals from Tracey Thorn of Everything But the Girl. Davidge subsequently oversaw the group’s 1998 album Mezzanine, its 2003 album 100th Window, and the 2004 Danny the Dog film score, the latter reaching American screens in 2005 under the title Unleashed. He scored the 2009 science-fiction movie Push, then rejoined Massive Attack in 2010 for the album Heligoland. The 2012 video game Halo 4 featured his original music; the release climbed to number 50 on the Billboard Top 200, setting the record for the highest-charting video game soundtrack to date, and was succeeded by both a remix anthology and a second volume. Davidge disclosed in 2013 that he was preparing a solo project featuring guest vocalists Sandie Shaw, Emi Green, and Cate Le Bon. The resulting album, Slo Light, appeared the following year on the 7Hz imprint.
