Biography
Beginning his musical endeavors in his teenage years, California indie pop singer/songwriter Nic Hessler issued sweetly sung, jangly, and catchy material under the name Catwalk upon reaching the age of 14. Those early creations attracted the interest of Oxnard, California-based label YAY! Records, which went on to release the singles "Shiny Girl" in 2007, "Past Afar" in 2008, and "Bona Fide" in 2010. The tracks elevated Catwalk to the status of an up-and-coming indie pop act worth watching, resulting in the band's signing to Captured Tracks once Hessler reached 18. After the label issued the two follow-up singles "(Please) Don't Break Me" in 2010 and "One by Words" in 2011, the group was preparing to tour when Hessler was diagnosed with Guillain–Barré Syndrome, an autoimmune disorder that caused partial paralysis lasting nearly four years. During his gradual recovery he resumed writing and shared a series of demos under his own name on Soundcloud. Captured Tracks remained supportive throughout and issued his debut album, Soft Connections, in early 2015.
