Nimbus Sextet emerged as a Glasgow-based modern jazz ensemble whose sound draws on an array of influences that stretch from groove-focused fusion of the 1970s to Bulgarian folk traditions. Following a pair of brief early recordings, the sextet delivered their first full-length effort, Dreams Fulfilled, during 2020.

Joe Nichols, the ensemble’s keyboardist and guiding force, initiated the project alongside fellow Edinburgh University alumni Alex Palmer, who handles drums, and Mischa Stevens on bass. In 2018 the core rhythm team expanded with the addition of trumpeter Euan Allardice and saxophonist/clarinetist Martin Fell; that same year the group unveiled their first recording, the independently issued double A-side “Seance”/“Arabesco,” which included guitarist Manuel Brazuna. Nimbus Sextet signaled their partnership with the veteran Acid Jazz imprint in August 2020 through the single “Trap Door,” then issued the complete album Dreams Fulfilled two months afterward. Guitarist Luca Pisanu contributed to those sessions, with Wayne A. Dickson acting as producer and co-writer. Prior to the album’s release, James Mackay joined as the group’s guitarist.
