Biography
Obsequiae, an atmosphere-driven American metal ensemble from Minnesota, fuse icy black metal with medieval folk while folding in touches of doom and death metal. Tanner Anderson on vocals, guitar, and bass joined harpist Vicente La Camera Mariño and drummer-bassist Neidhart von Reuental to form the group in 2007. Their self-titled demo appeared in 2009 and secured a contract with Bindrune Recordings, a label also home to like-minded acts such as Panopticon and Falls of Rauros. The band’s first full-length album, Suspended in the Brume of Eos, surfaced in 2011 and introduced new drummer Andrew Della Cagna. Their sophomore release, the widely praised Aria of Vernal Tombs, came out through 20 Buck Spin in 2015. On 2019’s The Palms of Sorrowed Kings the trio further refined their distinctive fusion of Hellenic black metal and early music.
