Orbert Davis ranks among the standout trumpeters active on Chicago’s thriving jazz scene. His résumé includes appearances alongside such prominent figures as Ramsey Lewis, Kurt Elling, Wynton Marsalis, and Stevie Wonder, establishing his reputation within high-profile circles. Although his career has centered more on commercial work than on experimental improvisation, the clarity and sustained force of his tone remain unmistakable across every phrase he plays. He leads his own ensembles on a regular basis, most prominently Orbert Davis with Strings Attached, and holds a continuing post with the Chicago Jazz Ensemble.
