Biography
After spending five years circulating mixtapes, the eccentric Los Angeles hip-hop collective OverDoz. secured a contract with the RCA subsidiary Polo Grounds. The quartet, consisting of rappers Joon, P, Kent, and Creamie, drew early parallels to OutKast and Digital Underground upon dropping their first mixtape, Bowties and Rosaries, in 2008. Although Nova in 2010 and Live for, Die For in 2011 broadened their reach, the vivid and high-energy clips they posted for songs such as "Growin' Pains" and "Come First" drove the real surge, amassing hundreds of thousands of plays. Their 2013 release Boom! featured guest spots from Juicy J, Nipsey Hussle, DJ Drama, and additional contributors; later that same year the group finalized their Polo Grounds agreement and accompanied labelmate A$AP Ferg on the Turnt and Burnt Tour throughout the United States. During the following two years they rolled out several singles, among them the 2015 track "Last Kiss" that included Pharrell Williams. Along with other cuts like the Hit-Boy-produced "Rich White Friends" and the A$AP Ferg-assisted "Fuck Yo DJ," that single eventually surfaced on the quartet's first proper album, the 2017 effort titled 2008.
