Biography
Paddy Glackin, a fiddler who helped found the Bothy Band, departed the group to launch his own career just prior to their entry into professional music. He has nonetheless persisted in delving into Ireland's traditional fiddling traditions, both independently and alongside uillean pipes player Robbie Hannan, multi-instrumentalist Donal Lunny, guitarist Michael O'Domhnaill, and fiddler Paddy Keenan. Recordings featuring his playing include those from Van Morrison, Kate Bush, and John Cage. The small Dublin village of Clontaif served as Glackin's birthplace and childhood home, where he absorbed the Donegal fiddling approach from his father, Tom. An itinerant fiddler named John Doherty from Donegal provided an additional key influence on his style.
