Biography
London-based singer and songwriter Paris Paloma, known for setting evocative atmospheres through her strongly literary approach, steadily issued independent singles across the first years of the 2020s. She joined the Nettwerk roster toward the close of 2022. In 2023 she unveiled “Labour,” a shape-shifting folk-pop anthem that examined relational imbalances and questioned conventional expectations. The track’s rapid online spread propelled it onto the U.K. singles chart, opening the door to her first full-length project, Cacophony, which appeared in 2024.
Raised in Ashbourne, Derbyshire, Paloma channeled her imagination through multiple creative outlets. While enrolled at an all-girls boarding school she concentrated on art and creative writing until music claimed her primary attention. Experience performing at sizable school events, together with her sustained practice of creative writing, proved instrumental once she began recording. By 2020 she was actively building a music career, shaping songs within a flexible folk structure that drew on Greek mythology, art history, and feminist perspectives.
Her earliest releases, “Narcissus” and “Cradle,” paired delicate acoustic guitar with expansive sonic textures that showcased her layered, hypnotic vocals, often compared to those of Florence Welch or Hozier. Momentum increased following the 2021 EP Cemeteries and Socials. Tracks such as 2022’s “The Fruits” and her interpretation of Rainbow Kitten Surprise’s “It’s Called: Freefall” accumulated substantial streams, leading to a contract with Nettwerk Music Group by year’s end.
Paloma’s initial 2023 offering was the lush single “Notre Dame,” yet the subsequent release “Labour” became her breakthrough. Its brooding, memorable chorus and lyrics confronting entrenched assumptions about women’s roles in partnerships resonated widely, especially after gaining viral traction on TikTok. The song soon registered on multiple charts, including a Top 50 placement on the U.K. singles chart. Later that year she issued “Yeti,” a duet with American artist Old Sea Brigade. These milestones culminated in the August 2024 arrival of her debut album Cacophony, which reached number 23 on Billboard’s Top Heatseekers chart.
